Review: Davidoff – Cool Water

This is an older fragrance that I kept hearing mentioned recently. If feels like it is from another era, but is very pleasant. This feels tailor made for office wear. Masculine, clean, dry. I think the age range for this is around 25 and up. All I can think of is a business suit when I smell this.

I wouldn’t recommend this for a date, there isn’t a seductive or alluring quality to it. I’m sure women will find it nice, but it has such a professional feel to it.

It is fairly long lasting. If you have a large cologne collection like I do, I feel like this is something you can add to it, even if it isn’t your favorite, it has a unique enough smell that you’re probably not going to start overlapping it with other scents you own.

Review: Jack Black – Blue Mark

This reminds me a lot of the smell of the soap bubbles that you had when you were a kid. Palmolive dish washing soap is another thing that comes to mind. The projection is not very good, I have to but my nose is very close to it to be able to smell it. It’s a very pleasant smell and there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s not very unique though, people smelling it wont find it intriguing.

Since it’s subtle it’ll be good for the office environment, good for a date to a nice restaurant. I wouldn’t wear this if you were going to be outdoors or at a bar or a club, it would be lost and no one would notice it.

Review: Byredo – Bal D’Afriqie

The vetiver in this comes out very strong, but it’s backed up by lemon, black currant, amber, bergamot, and some light florals.

This is a fragrance that is going to smell very good to a large number of people. It’s fresh, smooth, but also complex. It’s a vetiver scent to be sure, but all those back up notes are there to smooth out and enhance the vetiver. I think this would be a good gift as it’s very appealing to many people so you don’t have to worry specific taste.

This is not a masculine scent but a man could wear it, but it would also fantastic for woman.

After a couple of hours it is not quite as strong, but it’s holding on pretty well. It’s original smell is holding almost exactly, not a lot of change as the day goes by.

Review: Jo Malone – Bronze Wood Leather

It doesn’t have long lasting power, the projection is decent at the beginning but it dies down quick. It has a smokey smell, reminiscent of a auto shop, but I mean that in the best way. I smells a bit like coal tar.

It also has some lighter notes that come through, citrus, vetiver and juniper. This is definitely a masculine scent, I don’t think this would be something a woman would want to wear.

The main complaint I have with this is the projection is not good, it’s hard to smell unless you have your nose right up to the area you sprayed. I suppose if you spray a ton of it you might be able to make it work. If you want to smell like a man working in an auto shop all day but without the body odor, I think this might be worth a try.
